Safari being funny in El Capitan?

So I have a Mac Mini 2015 or late 2014, I bought it early 2015 so probably the
latter. 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive, not the new solid state kind.
Anyway updated to El Capitan with only one complaint:
If I try and use Go To Location dialog in Safari, it goes busy for a few seconds
and then doesn't really focus properly until I type the address and hit return.
Sometimes I can get the focus in there and it works. Other times, not so much.
Any way I can resolve this? Should I remove Flash? I rarely even use it
anymore. Or is there something else I should do?
Again it just goes Busy when you press command L, or move the VoiceOver
cursor to the edit section of the toolbar, both methods which I've tried.
Hoping someone else has seen this ...

I haven't seen that here, I don't have flash installed so I'd suggest maybe removing that and see if you still have the problem. I'll keep an eye out for it and see if it shows up though.

For some reason, today it's not happening anymore, and it had been since I
installed El Capitan. So, what a relief if it's gone!

Hi Leo,
I haven't experienced exactly what you have, but I have had problems typing in
the go to edit field in Safari. Under previous versions of OSX it didn't matter
whether quick nav was on or off when I pressed command l, but it seems to
now. If quick nav is on, then Voiceover tries to find check boxes, form controls
etc.

Well knock on wood, I have the problem again. And I did uninstall Flash this
time. Even trying to set focus to that tool bar makes it go Busy. I'll have to try
Command L when VoiceOver is off, then turn it back on and see if it's quicker. It
just doesn't want to focus for some reason.

Ed, when quick nav is on it is probably turning those keys in to commands. Turn this off by Going to the voiceover utility, commanders, Quicknav, Enable single key navigation when using quick nav. Uncheck this box and that problem should go away.
